Did you know there are just three types of hair growth on
body that we have. It’s fascinating how human bodies function, each serving its
own kind of role.
Here are some facts
about them:
We’ve got three types of hair, two of which are seen only
after birth. While in the womb, our bodies our covered with ‘Lanugo’ that warms
us and keeps us protected. Also called, ‘Peach Fuzz’, they are small, fine and
light in color. It is the hair that you see commonly on the face, back and
other parts of the body. They assist in regulating the body temperature and
serve as a cooling mechanism. It’s because of them we realize when a small
insect crawls upon us or we get Goosebumps. The growth of vellous is not
determined by hormones.
Next is the ‘terminal hair’ that grows in place of vellous
ones when we hit puberty in some areas. While in contrast, their growth is
determined by hormones and they are thick and dark black in color. These are
the ones that usually grow as moustache, chest and pubic in men and mere pubic
in females.
And then there are the ones we’ve got all over our arms and
legs. They are thicker and darker as compared to vellous hair and lighter,
thinner and softer than the terminal hair.
